Fernán Peréz de Ayala1 b. 1305, d. 15 October 1385 Merino mayor of Asturias.1 Adelantado major del reino de Murcia.1 Arms: argent two wolves passant sable within a bordure or charged with eight saltires gules (Ayala).2 Arms: Quarterly, 1st and 4th, argent two wolves passant in pale sable within a bordure gules charged with eight saltires or; 2nd and 3rd, or, a four towered castile azure, for Castile.3 Fernán Peréz de Ayala was born in 1305 at Toledo, Spain.1 He was the son of Pedro López and Sancha Fernández Barroso.1 Fernán Peréz de Ayala was remembered as an old man being "still too young to bear arms", when his elder brother won the lordship of Ayala after killing the bastard son of the last of the earlier lords circa 1321.4 He married Elvira Alvarez de Ceballos, daughter of Diego Gutiérrez de Ceballos and Juana García Carrillo.1 Fernán Peréz de Ayala became lord of Ayala in 1332.1 He began the genealogical treatise on the Ayala ancestry and alliances, called the "Libro del linaje de los señores de Ayala" in 1371. In the case of Ayala family, they struggled to succeed to a prestigious lordship after the extinction of an older line to which it was only remotely related.5 He died on 15 October 1385 at Vitoria or Quejana, Spain, at age 80 years.
