Tyra of Wessex was per one late source the daughter of "King AEthelred" of England (but the reliability of this statement has been questioned). She may have been the daughter of Ethelred, the king of the English. Also called Thrye Dannebod of Jutland, if the daughter of Klakharald of Jutland. She was born circa 866. She was possibly the daughter of Æthelred I, King of the English. She surpassed other women in seriousness and shrewdness, and laid the condition on her suitor (Gorm) that she would not marry him till she had received Denmark as a dowry. She married Gormr Gamle, King of Denmark, son of Hardeknut Sigurdsson of Norway, before 909. Tyra of Wessex was buried in Jutland. The earlier stone, of two 10th-century royal gravestones, was a memorial honouring Queen Thyre, and commissioned by her husband, King Gorm the Old, last pagan king of Denmark.
