Peter had 3 children by a previousmarriage. The Dietrich farm was sold to ALBERT TIETZ, probably in1891. Mathilde received her share (est. $3M) before her emigration tothe U.S. in November, 1892. Mathilde left home 2 days before her 24th birthday (1892) andemigrated to Indianapolis. Mathilde and ANTON TIETZ went immediatelyto Jennings County and were married on January 24, 1893, at St. AnneChurch in North Vernon, Indiana by Fr. URICH. Anton and Mathildebought an 80-acre farm north of the church from Amy Cummings for$1500--stock, etc., $700, in the spring of 1893. WALBURGA and EUGENEwere born on the farm. Because of "unfavorable farming conditions,"the farm was sold to a George Meyer in 1898, and the family moved toIndianapolis. The family lived on Jones Street, then Harding Street where ERNST wasborn. Anton went to Tampa, Florida to buy land, returned and workedat Vandalia again. They leased a tavern for a time; it was here thatHILDEGARDE was born. Anton next worked at Hoosier Abbatoir (DennisBryan) for 12 years. He was naturalized in 1906. ALPHONSE was born onMorris Street in Indianapolis in 1909. About 1916 Anton began workingfor the Indianapolis School Board as a custodian, then at St.Patrick's Church for 10 years, after which he retired. Anton died in1939. Mathilde visited her homeland late in 1908 for maybe one month. In1911, she built a home for her family at 1538 S. Alabama St.,Indianapolis, Indiana. (Her mother's death, possibly in 1910, providedsome funds (est. $1M)). She lived there until her death in 1948,except for a short period after Anton died when she lived withWalburga. She returned to Alabama Street to live with Al and Mary, who bought the home. Alphonse and his family occupied the home untilhis death in 1992. The house was sold by his wife Mary in 1993, andshe went to live with their eldest daughter, Mary. The farm description and deeds were reviewed at the county court housein Vernon on October 21, 1980, by Al, Mary, and daughter Patty. St.Ann's Church and cemetery were also visited.
