Melchior wurde 1686 ( errechnet ) in einem noch unbekanntem Ort geboren. Sein Vater ist wohl Jost SCHNUPP aus Gemünden (der jüngere Bruder von Burkhard SCHNUPP) der die Heimat nach dem Tod seiner Mutter verlies. Melchior muß schon in jungen Jahren zum Militär gegangen sein; und weil er zuletzt im Rang eines Wachtmeisters stand, kann man annehmen, daß er längere Zeit in der kaiserlichen Armeegedient hat ( bis ca.1735 ). Um allenfalls Daten darüber zu ermitteln, wären die Bestände Hofkriegsrat und Alte Feldakten im Kriegsarchiv Wien anhand jahrgangsweiser Findbücher durchzugehen.
