Ab 1935 US-amreikanische Staatsbürgerschaft Augusta Hofmann, Karoline Hofmann Gog's oldest sister, was the first of the family to emigrate from Germany to America in 1884. She was followed by her sister Wilhelmine (Minnie) in 1886. It was Minnie who in 1923 invitedone of Karoline's daughters to come to America under her sponsorship. The invitation was originally intended for Karoline's second daughter and Minnie's namesake, Mina, but given that Mina was only 16 at the time and Louise was 21, it was decided during her lunch break on the very day the invitation came that Louise would quit her job in a jewelry firm, immigrate to America, and help support the family at home through her remittances. 1923 was the year of the runaway inflation in Germany. When Louise reached New York she stayed briefly with her Aunt Augustabefore crossing the continent by train to the San Francisco Bay Area. Her home was with her Aunt Minnie in Vallejo but she lived with various families for whom she worked as a cook, housekeeper, and nanny. K 10 is a group photo of the Gog family with Louise represented by her portrait on the table. In 1930 Louise visited her family in Germany. L 2 is a family picturefollowed by closeups. The remaining pictures show Louise on shipboard or in Germany.
