Notes for this person
ame: Henry J. Muno gender: Male birth: 1835 Damfloss Bei Trier, Rheinland, Germany death: 31 Oct 1886 Illinois burial: 3 Nov 1886 St. Henry's Rectory AFN: 5N2Z-XNP Exerpt from Roger's Park Historical Society Newsletter, by John Zender: "A brutal murder was committed in the small farming community of West Ridge, Halloween night of 1886. The following day, Nov 1st, the body of HENRY MUNO, a wealthy and respected citizen, was found beaten and bloodied near his Asbury Avenue home...The top of a grassy bank between the ditch and the road was covered with clottedblood, and a trail led to a small pool of blood on the walkway. Winandy soon summoned Jacob Phillip to the scene. Though the victim's vest was torn open and pulled over his face, both men recognized their friend, HENRY MUNO. Phillip left to tell the tragic news to his family. Mr. MUNO's widow, ANNA MARIA, had assumed he had spent the night with relatives. Grief-stricken, she returned to uncover the bruised and bloodied face of her husband. A blood-soaked handkercheif and a sharp 1/2 lb rock covered with dried blood were on the road a few yards away. As no money was found on the body, and a coin was near it, robbery was the assumed motive... MUNO's funeral: Wednesday, 3 Nov 1886. "In his eulogy, the Reverend Father Miller remembered the deceased had been an exceptionally kind and gentle man, active in church and community affairs, and a loving husband and father."
