Name: Robert de QUINCY 1 2 3 Sex: M Birth: ABT 1200 in Colne Quincy Manor, Earls Colne, Halstead, Essex, England Death: AUG 1257 in (dspm) 4 3 Note: Robert DE QUINCY (youngest son of Saher, Earl of Winchester), who died s.p.m., August 1257. [Complete Peerage] ------------------------------------ The mother of Robert de Quincy is rather curious. MCS states he is "3rd son by an unknown mother" (noncommittal as to whether Mistress or Wife, which they generally indicate), and neither MCS nor Burke's Peerage indicate that he is illegitimate, which they do if appropriate. Yet his father's wife Margaret de Beaumont, mother of the elder Robert de Quincy, outlived his father, so an "unknown mother" would have to make him illegitimate, wouldn't it? Maybe MCS was being overly cautious in assigning him a mother, and it really was Margaret de Beaumont--(although why two Robert de Quincys?) Is it possible he is son of the elder Robert de Quincy (the dates would certainly allow for it)?
