STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Lifelong Staten Islander Doris Pitou, 79, of Great Kills,a well-known antiques dealer and expert and an honorary board member of Tottenville's Conference House, died Saturday at the home of her son in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
She was born Doris Dittmer on the Island and grew up in Port Richmond. After graduating from Port Richmond High School, she matriculated at Wagner College, Grymes Hill, where she studied English.
Ms. Pitou had been ahomemaker for the last few decades, but in the 1970s she owned Armory Antiques,a shop near the Manor Road Armory in West Brighton.
She had a passion for antiques and had been an antiques dealer for 40 years. Also an expert in antique dolls, she had served as an appraiser at many events on the Island.
Ms. Pitou had been a member of the Staten Island Historical Society and an honorary board member of the Conference House Association, which oversees the historicConference House in Tottenville, where she chaired the house's furnishings committee and served as its resident antiques expert.
She was fond of reading, spending time with her cats and attending antiques shows, auctions and flea markets.
She is survived by her son, Jerry.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Hanley Funeral Home, with burial to follow inMoravian Cemetery, both New Dorp.
