OBITUARY - HOLZ

Fred Holz, Sr. was born December 12, 1867, in Macklinberg, Germany and passed away July 21, 1939, at his home north of Paxico.

When he was a year and ha half old he came to America with his parents who settled at Hanover, ILL. Here he remained until he was 17 years old when they came to Kaw township, Wabaunsee county, Kansas, where he has resided ever since.

February 20th, 1895, he was united in the bonds of wedlock with Miss Marie Beasterfeld, the Rev J. Abele performing the ceremony. This union was blessed with the following children, five sons, Fred of St. Marys, Kansas, John of Kansas city, Missouri, Herman of St. Marys, Kansas, Herman of St. Marys, Kansas, Henry of the home place, William of Kansas City; four daughters, Dora Allen of Topeka, Marie Perry St. Marys, Minnie Reser of St. Marys and Bertha Reser of Rossville.

Mr. Holz is survived by the above mentioned children, sixteen grandchildren; three brothers, William of Rossville, Henry of Belvue, and Ernest of Westmoreland; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hasse, Topeka, Mrs. Sophie Hasenbank of St. George, Mrs. Emma Breschwerdt of Wamego, Martha Buchmeier of Paxico. He was preceded in death by his faithful wife in 1917.

While yet and infant in arms he was presented to the Lord in Baptism. On April 10th, 1881, he ratified these vows given by his parents when he was confirmed in the Evangelical Church in Hanover, Illinois. When he came to this vicinity he joined the Immanuel's Evangelical Church to which he remained a true member until the time of his death the length of his membership being 55 years.

It was the privilege of the departed to live on the home place for forty years. The illness of Mrs. Holz was of about 4 months duration. He bore with fortitude that which was laid on him to bear and although aware of the seriousness of his illness and that it would result in his death, he yet faced it bravely and last prepared himself in Holy communion Fellowshipping once more with his Lord in company with his loved ones.

He reach the age of 71 years, 7 months and 9 days. He was a kind and affectionate father, a friendly neighbor or,m who will be missed by all. Yet as we must say farewell we find comfort in the words:

Now at last is o'er

Lord! a whole long day of pain

Darkness bringing weary strain

comes to me no more.

Round me falls the evening gloom,

Sights and sounds all cease;

But within the narrow room

Night will bring no peace.

come then, Jesus! o'er me bend

And my spirit cheer;

From all faithless thoughts defend,

Let me feel thee near

then if I must wake or weep

All the long night through

Thou the watch with me wilt keep,

Friend and Guardian true!
