GLADYS HOLZ Rossville - Gladys I Miles Holz, 79, Rossville, died Friday Dec 3, 1999, at a St. Marys nursing home She owned and operated the Hotel Cafe in Osage City with her first husband, Francis Miles. She later worked at Shawgo's Clothing and Jack Anderson's Shoe Store, both in Osage City. She also had worked for Jostens American Yearbook in Topeka for 15 years before retiring. She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of David and Mary Whitly Hawkins. She grew up in Topeka, Lyndon and Osage City and graduated from Osage city High School in 1938. Mrs. Holz was a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church, Osage City and the Jimmie Lillard American legion Post No. 31 Auxiliary, Rossville. She married Francis Miles on Jan 29, 1940, at Osage City. He died in 1979. She married Wilmont F, "Bill" Holz on Aug 12, 1987, at Miami, Okla. He died June 22, 1999. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Miles, in 1994, and a grandson, Marc Smitha, in 1985. Survivors include a son Bill Miles, Burlington, a daughter, Linda Smitha, Manhattan; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel, Rossville. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Osage City Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Jimmie Lillard American Legion Post No 31 Auxiliary, Rossville, sent in care of the funeral home.
