Funeral services for Columbia May Beasterfeld were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Eskridge United Presbyterian Ch. with the Rev. Lewis Koerselman officiating. Interment was in the Eskridge Cemetery with the Austin Funeral Home in charge. Organist for the services was Pansy Wakefield. Casket bearers were Ronnie Burns, Wendell Baker, William Corpening, Gerald Coffin, Paul Breithaupt and Max Martin. Columbia May Beasterfeld, a daughter of Sherman and Carrie Brown Young, was born May 1, 1893 at Emporia, Kansas and passed away at the Flint Hills Manor in Eskridge on May 16, 1973. She was 80 years and 15 days old. She had spent practically her entire life in Wabaunsee County and was highly regarded in the community, both as a friend and neighbor. She was a member of the Eskridge United Presbyterian Ch. Mrs. Beasterfeld helped organize the Friendly Farmers 4-H Club about 1940 and was a lady leader for ten years. She joined the Ideal Homemakers HDU in 1941 and was active member in the Grange, and took an enthusiastic part in the meetings. Mrs. Beasterfeld was united in marriage to Willey Beasterfeld on April 6, 1921, at the home of her parents. She is survived by her husband, Willey, of the home; a son, Rev. Sherman Beasterfeld[t], of Longview, WA; a foster son, Donald Goodspeed, Cornwell Heights, PA; four sisters, Mrs. Francelia Robinson and Mrs. Lucile Iott, both of Eskridge, Mrs. Murrel Girndt, Newton; and Mrs. Violet Myer, Springfield, IL; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.” The Eskridge Independent, dtd 28 Sep 1972 “Columbia Beasterfeld entered Stormont-Vail hospital Tuesay afternoon for surgery Thusday.” Letter to Clyde Young from Lucille Young Iott, dtd May 30, 1973: “…I have some sad news for you.
