Birth:
He was probably born about 1774 in the Leeste parish near Syke in Lower Saxony in Germany. His father's name was Friedrich Paul. His mother's name was Gesche Paul nee Brockmann. (E1, E3)
Leeste is now a part of the town Weyhe.
Childhood:
Unknown.
Work:
He was a farmer (German: Brinksitzer and Anbauer) on the Langwerth estate in Leeste. His house was in a street called Köhlerbruch. (E1)
In the 1833 and 1836 census he is described as 'Langer Brinksitzer'. He was the owner of farm No. 86 (1852 “Brandkataster”/census No.) in Leeste. His son Johann Hinrich Paul inherited the farm. In the 1852 census he was called Kleinbrinksitzer. (E2)
Marriage:
He married the single Margarethe Warncke from the village Sudweyhe, which is in the Kirchweyhe parish, on the 30th of January 1795 in the Lutheran church in Kirchweyhe. (E3)
They raised a family in Leeste. (E1)
Sudweyhe and Kirchweyhe are now also parts of Weyhe.
Death:
He died of old age on the 24th of February 1846 in Leeste. He was 72 years old. He was buried in the cemetery there three days later. (E1)
Other Information:
1. The church books dated between 1756 and 1792 of the Marien church in Leeste were destroyed in a fire.
2. The writer of Johann Paul's wedding record in the Kirchweyhe church books stated that Johann Paul's father's name was Hinrich. However, in the burial record in the Leeste church books, his name is given as Friedrich. I believe that the latter is correct. The writer of the Leeste records probably knew Johann Paul's father, because both lived in Leeste.
I studied both copies of Johann Paul's burial record in Leeste.
There is no burial record of a Hinrich Paul in Leeste in the period from 1792 to 1840 inclusive.
There is no baptism record of a Hinrich Paul in Leeste around 1740.
In the "Feuerliste" from 1815 of Leeste, there is a Friedrich Paul. There is no Hinrich Paul. (See document "Hann. 74 Syke Nr. 50" in the civic archive of Hannover.)
3. There were no families with the surname Paul in the list of Leeste from 1775 (see document "Hann. 74 Syke Nr. 49" in the civic archive of Hannover).
