Biography Leonard grew up on a farm around Pestigo and at age 18 went to Chicagoto enlist in the Navy for WWI. After the Navy, he lived withrelatives in Morgan Park, Illinois, and joined the Morgan ParkMethodist Church. Leonard met Lillian Sommer at a USO dance and thengot married. After the wedding they moved to Harvey, Illinois whereBette Jane was born. In 1930, after the stock crash, Lillian's motherand father needed help at their business, so they moved back toChicago (43rd & Wentworth) to help. After Lillian's father died of astroke in 1937, they sold the business in 1940 and moved to Beverly(103 & Campbell). After they both retired, they sold their house andin the mid 1960's and they moved to Palos Heights.(16127 Mcvicker).Leonard died there with scerosis of the liver. He did not drink, sothey figured that sometime in his life he had injured his liver andover time it just deteriated.
