No military service. Charley was only 4 years old when his motherdied. His father remarried two years later. Family lore says that hestrongly disliked the woman his father married. His father died whenhe was only 9 years old. He was the only minor child being 16 yearsyounger than the next sibling. His only brother, Henry Martin, was 19years older than he. Henry Martin became his guardian, took Charleyand went to Oklahoma after he finished taking care of his father'sbusiness. Henry Martin was the executor of their father's will.Charley spent the rest of his life living around Nowata, Oklahoma,farming.
