Notes for this person
In 1929 Gertruida Magdalena Urbasch (Vaughan) wife of Carl Rudolf Urbasch, who was the first Urbasch born in South Africa, wrote to her son and gave a good account of his ancestors. She wrote "On your father’s side: Carl Heinrich Urbasch, born in Berlin Germany, his wife Augusta… born in Hamburg, Germany. They came to South Africa. Settles in Cape Town, li..d there and ?bon both of them died there. He was a builder by trade, a good old couple. They belonged to the German Church, Cape Town" Carl and his family came to South Africa aboard the Victoria in 1859. Passengers of the 'Victoria' Notes: Departed from Hamburg on 1 October 1859 under Captain C.P. Thönissen. Final destination: Cape Town. Urbasch, Carl Landmann (35), Mohsau (Pr.), mit Frau Auguste (30) und Pauline (9), Auguste (5), Elise (unter 1). I found reference to Mohsau in an article related to the Battle of Paltzig on 1759-07-23. Supporting documents under “Media” tab. I am currently searching for his parents. I think his father might be: http://www.geni.com/people/Carl-Heinrich-Urbasch/6000000026600267633?through=6000000026599462664
