Richard Brent, Esquire, of Lark Stoke in Ilmington and Admington, Gloucestershire. Sheriff of Gloucestershire. Son of Richard Brent and Mary Hugford, grandson of John Hugford and Katherine Heneage daughrer of John Heneage of Hainton. Husband of Elizabeth Reade, daughter of Giles Reade of Tewkesbury and Katherine Greville, daughter of Fulke. They had six sons and seven daughters; Fulk, Colonel Richard, Giles, William, Edward and George, Margaret, Mary, Catherine, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Jane and Anne. three of his daughters became nuns. Richard subscribed (helped to financially support) to the building of the bridge at Stratford-Upon-Avon in 1618, leased Larkstoke for 14 years to his brother-in-law, Fulke Reade, and in 1629, he and Elizabeth conveyed the manor of Admington to the executors of Fulk Greville, Lord Brooke, his wife's cousin. Two thirds of his lands were collected in 1644 for recusancy (fees to the church as he failed to pay), and Elizabeth's children were left amounts in the will of her brother, Fulk. Bio by Anne Shurtleff Stevens Family: Spouse: Elizabeth Reade Brent (____ - 1631) Children: Margaret Brent (1601 - 1671) Giles Brent (1604 - 1672) Inscription: The Brents of Stoke have had a place of burial here since the coming of their ancestor out of Somersetshire about the yeare 1487 by the concealed name of John Buston who married Margery daughter of Georg Colchester then of Stoke and Admington Esq about the year 1498 and dyed 1531. Their son William Brent Lord of Stoke and Admington dyed 1595 with Elizabeth his wife here buried. Their son Richard Brent married Mary daughter of John Huggerford Esq and Katherine Hennage his wife 1572 and dyed 1587. Here buried. Their son Richard Brent married Elizabeth daughter of Giles Reed Esq and Katherine Greville his wife Anno 1594 and dyed 1652. He was here buried but his wife at Bredon with her father. Their son Richard Brent married Margaret daughter of Sir John Peshall Baronet and Anne Sheldon his wife Anno 1622 four of whose children Frances, Mary, Elizabeth and Giles lye here buried Anno 1657.
