The Rev. Dr. William Ernest Eigenbrodt, professor emeritus of pastoral theology in the General Theological Seminary, died on Sunday at his home, No. 127 West Thirteenth-st. He was stricken with paralysis last March, and ever since that time had been slowly failing. Dr. Eigenbrodt was born in Jamaica, L.I. [Long Island], June 10, 1813, the son of Dr. Lewis E. A. Eigenbrodt. He was educated at Union Hall Academy, was graduated from Columbia College in 1831, and later studied at the General Theological Seminary. In 1838 he was ordained as minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church, his first parish being in Bainbridge, N.Y. In 1846 he was chosen rector of All Saints' Church, in this city, and from 1858 to 1862 was assistant minister of Calvary Church. he had been secretary of the conventions of the diocese of New-York for more than twenty-five years, and was secretary of Trinity School at the time of his death. His degree of D.D. was conferred by Columbia in 1855. At the General Theological Seminary Dr. Eigenbrodt's teachings were distinguished by scholarship and soundness of doctrine. Funeral services will be held to-morrow at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation, West Fourteenth-st.
