He married Elizabeth Legg in Chard on 4 March 1655/6, but not inthe Parish Church, for after an Act passed in 1653 by Barebone's Parliament it was illegal for anyone to conduct a marriage ceremony exceptfor a magistrate. In' many parishes this was not observed and clergyman continued as before but Chard was not such a parish probably because of its size. The marriage of Robert Warry and Elizabeth Legg was one of the few marriages recorded at Chard during the Commonwealth Period, and was probably conducted in the market place by a Justice of Peace. Roberts occupation is nowhere recorded, though it would seem as though he was connected with farming, he was buried at Chard on 6 January 1683/84 and hiswife Elizabeth was buried there on 9 September 1698. (one reference has him as 'clothier')}
