Maria Magdalena WALTER was born in Germany. One set of records suggest she was born 22 Nov 1717 in Birkenau, Hesssen, Germany to Johann Ludwig Heinrich WALTER (1679-1739) and Maria Gertraud SCHIRMEYN (1689-1732), and then baptized on 23 Nov 1717. Several researchers instead suggest other parents. Regardless, Maria Magdalena WALTER was married on 23 Jan 1739 to (widower) Johann Wendel Georg TRAUT, with the Rev. John Casper Stover, Lutheran Church, New Holland, Earl Twp, Lancaster, PA, performing the ceremony. Although Stover lived in New Holland, the ceremony "may" have been performed in Strasburg. Wendel had lost his first wife, Maria Appolonia STEIN[LIN] only the year before in Germany, and had arrived in Strasburg Township the previous September with his (8) children from his first marriage. Research Update: As with her true birth date and parents, Magdalena's true date of death remains a subject of ongoing research. "Sometime during the month of Feb 1761" is the date which had been previously accepted by most researchers, but the entry for the "Letters of Administration" for her late husband Wendel dated 29 Nov 1760 was then crossed out to now also include Magdalena. Significantly, Magdalena's estate was probated on 2 Dec 1760, with distribtution to (children) Paul Trout (exectutor), Maria Elizabeth, Magdalena, Barbara, Catherine, Anna Maria, and Wendel. All considered, we can now conclude that Magdalena had died in November 1760, perhaps on about the 24th, or that is to say, about two days after her 43rd birthday. Maria Magdalena WALTER TRAUT is almost certainly buried in this small family burying ground next to her husband. Her stone is perhaps sunken into the soft soil or is among the stones that are so soft that they can no longer be read. -- Research by Craig H. Trout, please credit.
