"George Henry Mayer of Kinmundy, Ill., was born in Covington, Ind. Dec. 25, 1875, and died in El Paso, Texas, Nov. 20,1931. He was the son of Michael and Margaret Mayer, the eighth of a family of nine children, all of whom have precededhim in death except one brother, Michael of this city, and two sisters, one of which is Mrs. Lena Schoonover ofCovington. In early youth he was christened in the Methodist Episcopal church. He attended public school in Covingtonand Rose Palyteehnie in Terre Haute, and later was affiliated with his father in the hardware business in this city. Hewent to Alaska during the gold rush in 1902 and spent nearly a year there. In 1903 he removed to DuQuon, Ill., where heengaged in the hardware business in DuQuoin, Christopher and West Frankfort. In 1904 he was united in marriage to MaryHicks-Yount at Champaign, Ill. He gave up the hardware business in 1911 and moved to Kinmundy, Ill. where he engaged infarming. After a severe attack of pneumonia in 1926, his health became seriously imparied and in quest of health hewent to Phoenix, Ariz., and later to El Paso, Texas, where he died, Nov. 20, 1931. He is survived by his widow, onebrother and two sisters previously mentioned; one niece, Margaret and nephews, Charles and Michael Mayer. He has been amember of several fraternal organizations being a Mason, a Knight Templar, a Shriner and Elk and a K. P. The bodyarrived here Monday afternoon and was taken to the home of his brother, Michael on North Fourth street where funeralservices were conducted by Rev. A. E. Arthur, pastor of the Presbyterian church, the Masons officiating at the home andgrave, Boord & Shelby directing. The family and friends gratefully acknowledge the many kind offices of Rev. WilliamHedges while Mr. Mayer stayed at Phoenix, Arizona in search of health, where Rev. Hedges, a Covington boy, has hismission."-The Covington Republican, Friday, November 27, 1931
