Abstammung wahrscheinlich. Die Namen seiner Eltern wurden zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes mit “Johann Wilhelm Schüller & Catharina Stiel” angegeben. Ein solches Ehepaar tritt jedoch in Gressenich und Umfeld nicht weiter auf. Er stammt wahrscheinlich aber aus der Ehe Peter Schüller mit Anna Catharina Schleicher. Auftretende Taufpaten sind hierfür ein starkes Indiz. Möglicherweise trug seine Mutter das Matronym Stiel, da die Großmutter so hieß.
Am 10.12.1800 hielt sich Johannes Wilhelm Schüller in Frankreich auf.
