Notes for this person
Second of seven children of Gustav and Augusta Fritz Witt, his mother died when he was 12. He worked as laborer for and boarded with the Charles Althouses and became part of that family.
He moved with them to Sibley where he was employed as Warehouse Foreman and seed corn Manager for Sibley Estates. He was working in the elevator building when he developed a sudden, blinding headache and collapsed. He died of a brain aneurysm.
Ironically, he had taken never used vacation days and insisted that his only surviving sister travel with him on the train to visit their one surviving brother in California in February of that year. Henry died 5 Mar and his brother Fred died 5 April that year.
Henry never married. Although he maintained a close connection to his birth family and often spent holidays with his Gerken relatives, he is buried in the Althouse family plot.
