Louise Latschar Moyer said in 1949 (according to her daughter Mary Moyer Deurksen):
Elisabeth Neu was born in the small pleasant town of Enkenbach, Pfalz, Germany, on January 6, 1864, the youngest of the rather large family of Abraham Neu and Anna Latschar Neu. Abraham built houses and the Neu family was fairly well-to-do. Theirhome, on a small ranch, was typical of the time and place -- house and barn under one roof. Elizabeth remarked often that land was not wasted in Germany as in America, but that every nook and corner was used for something.
