Obituary:
Pete Card
Peter L. Card, Sr., 85, of Staples died Saturday, July 1, 1995, at the
Greater Staples Hospital.
Memorial services were held Monday, July 10, 1995, at the
Congregational Church.
Pete was born October 16, 1909 in Staples to James H. and Rose
Ringler Card. In 1932 he married Lucille Dickinson of Venable. She
passed away in 1945. In 1950 he married Ruby McKnight.
He was a livestock buyer from 1941 to 1950. During this time he
began building the large building on North 5th Street in Staples
known for years as the Card building, now owned by the local school
district and used by ECSU-5 and the Freshwater Education District.
In 1950 he started Cards Auto Parts located on North 5th St. The
building and surrounding land was sold in 1961 to the Staples School
District. This land is where the first Heavy Equipment School was
located.
From 1961 to 1963 he worked for the school district and began
building houses. Over the next 30 years his rental houses in Stapels
were successful. In 1965 he reopened Cards Auto Parts, this time on
the Warner Road where the business still operates today.
He is survived by his wife Ruby; three sons, Peter Jr., Theodore (Ted)
and Alan, all of Staples; three daughters, Roseann Bonin [?] of Dallas,
Tex., Maxine Fouks of Roy, Utah; and Marlene Reeck of Staples; onehalf-brother, Earl Kolbe of Staples, ten grandchildren and sic greatgrandchildren.
