~~Jake.jpg Harrisbourg Jan the 28th 1862 Dear Brother I take the Present oppertunitty of writting you a few lines to let you know that i am well hopeing the these few lines will find you well, and all of the boys i have no news to writ to you, i am still at Harrisburg a doing well, i dont know how long i will stay here but i would like to hear from you and the boys how you are a getting a long and what you are a doing tell J. C Barnet that i have got his Papper and hat and that i will sent it to him when ever i can get a chance, and tell bill Campbel that the letter in the P. O. in Houston is J. W. H. Campbel and if he thinks it is his to let me know and i will get it and sent it to him. and tell Dack Davis to Pay you the teen Dollars that he ows Wm. Meenefee fore takeing care of his horse and i will see itall rite and sent me the money fore i have fore it and would to have the money. Trys Fuller owes me $3 50 i would like fore you to get fore me and green Lackey owes me $1,00 one Dollar take it and Pay my debts with it if you have not Paid them. Janes chery $2 00 and Thos. Neely three, and sent me som money by the frist good chance you have and write i got a letter frome Fred he was well and sayte to give his best wishes to the boys and for you to write to him at Little Rock Arkansas. i want to hear fromeyou Your Brother W. J. Steubing Bio: Jake enlisted in the Confederate army in July of 1861 (an army record mistakenly puts the enlistment date at 1862). He served as a private in Company B, 26th Cavalry Regiment (Debray's Regiment), C.S.A. His primary occupation with the army appears to havebeen as a blacksmith. Jake served until the end of the war in 1865 and was honorably discharged
