An Old Citizen Passes Away
August C Herrig in his sixty-six year died very suddenly last Sunday night about eleven o'clock. His death was unexpected and the report as it spread over the town caused some sensation. The funeral was held at the Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon and pretty much all the surrounding county as well as the citizens of this town attended. Some nearly three hundred viewing the remains for the last time on earth. Reverend A. Dischner had charge of the funeral services after which the remains were laid to rest in the last resting place in Wall Lake cemetery.
August C. Herrig was born in Kembs, Germany, August 27, 1841. He was married to Miss Erne Brockmann who died in 1878, having borne him five children, four of whom are dead, one Helen now Mrs. Ralph Kaiser, who lives near Lytton. In 1880, March 30, he wedded Helen Bauer who survives him. To them were born six children two of whom are dead, the other four, Paul J. living on the home farm, Ross A., Edward H., and Nora are at home.
In 1885 Mr. Herrig came from Germany to Wall Lake, near which he resided until three years ago, when he moved into the house he had purchased in the east part of town and where he died after an half hours illness, of heart disease March 8, 1908, about 10:30 p.m. He also leaves one brother, A. D. Herrig of Denison and a sister in Germany.
