Began the manufacture of cigars in Jerseyville in 1887. Factory No. 208. Opened his factory at his present place of business on west Pearl street in 1892. Manufactures on an average of 175,000 cigars annually.

BROCKMAN, William F., Born Germany, died 03-1918, buried Oak Grove Cemetery. William F Brockman, 65, died at his home Sat. Had lived in Jerseyville since childhood. A native of Germany he came to the US at the age of 5 with his parents. He lived in St. Louis for a time, then came to Jersey county. Engaged in the bakery business with brothers, Herman and Henry Brockman, but in 1887 partnership dissolved and he entered the cigar business which he learned under Henry Brandt. Made a success of this business both retail and wholesale. He leaves his wife, 1 son, Louis F; 1 daughter, Minnie; 2 brothers, Herman of Jerseyville, and Henry of St. Louis; 1 sister, Mrs. William Pittman of Granite City. Funeral from German Evangelical church, Rev. Paul Stange officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Members of Steelman and Hickory Grove Camps, Mwa attended service in a group. It was a motor funeral. Among pallbearers were 6 nephews: Cornelius Brockman, Roy W Brockman of St. Louis, Harry C. Coates, Thomas Coates, Henry C. Coates, Thomas C. Coates, Fred Pittman of Granite City and Russel Weule of Grafton.
