1. "9 Sep 1910--WILLARD SPURLING DEAD--
Word was received here yesterday of the death of Willard Spurling
in Centralia. For some time he had complained of a pain in his head,
which in the past few days was found to be caused by an abscess. He
had recently sold his farm and was moving to Centralia. Wednesday,
when the last load of goods had been put on the wagon he told his wife
that he was feeling so bad that he didn't believe he would live to get to
town. An instant later he fell from the wagon lighting on his head. His
collar bone was broken in two places, and it is thought [---] was fractured,
as he never regained consciousness. When picked up it was found that
the abscess in his head had bursted, which was no doubt the cause of
the fall. He was (given) every attention but grew rapidly worse, dying
yesterday at 10 o'clock. Interment will take place at Centralia today at
2 o'clock. He was the son of H.T. Spurling of this (place) and only a
month ago was called here by the death of his mother. He was 50 years
old and is survived by his wife and two sons. A sister, Mrs. Orpha Edwards,
is very sick at her home in Moberly and there are doubts of her recovery."
