1. Was in Randolph county, MO in 1830 but came to Howard county, MO in 1817
according to his obituary. Elizabeth (Embree) Brockman came to Missouri
with her parents when she was 7 years old.
2. Was married 20 Jun 1828 in Howard county, MO.
3. The following "certificate" was found in the land records of Chariton
county, MO:

No. 27156 To all of whom these presents shall come, Greeting,
Whereas Jacob E. Brockman of Chariton County, Missouri has deposited in
the General Land Office of the United States, a certificate of the
Register of the Land Office at Fayette where by it appears that full
payment has been made by the said Jacob E. Brockman according to the
provisiors of the act of Congress of the 24th of April 1820, entitled
"An act making further provisions for the sale of the public lands,"
for the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of section Thirty
Five in township fifty six of Range Seventeen, in the district of lands
subject to sale at Fayette, Missouri containing Forty acres according
to the official plat of the survey of the said lands, returned to the
General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract has been
purchased by the said Jacob E. Brockman. Now Know Ye, that the United
States of America, in consideration of the premises, and in conformity
with the several acts of Congress in such case made and provided Have
Given and Granted and by these presents Do Give and Grant unto the said
Jacob E. Brockman and to his heirs, the said tract above described; To
have and to hold the same, thereunto belonging unto the said Jacob E.
Brockman and to his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof I,
Zachary Taylor, President of the United States of America, have caused
these letters to be made patent and the seal of the General Land Office
to be hereunto affixed. Given under my hand at the city of Washington
the first day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand--eight hundred
and forty nine and of the Independence of the United States the seventy
third.

4. He moved his family several times: he moved to Randolph county, MO and
stayed there until 1832. Stephen Brockman, his father, was living in
Randolph county....Jacob E. next moved to Ray county, MO (his brother
William Willis Brockman settled in Ray county) in 1832 but he returned
to Howard county in 1839. From 1848-1864 he lived in Chariton county,
MO and then, from about 1864-1866, he settled in Iowa. He returned to
Chariton county, MO about 1866.
---2 May 1825, Howard county, MO. Elizabeth Brockman sold a negro girl
by the name of Fillis, aged 10, to C.M. Cravens for $125.
---19 Sep 1832, Ray county, MO. Purchased the E 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of
Sec 25 T52 R29 (80 acres); sold this land 8 Dec 1835.
---13 Mar 1841, Howard county, MO. Jacob and Elizabeth used their land
(164 and 25/100 acres; Sec. 6-49-16 and 1-49-17 as collateral for a note
of $600 borrowed from J. Kingsbury.
---1 May 1848. A land grant certificate, No. 27156, was issued to Jacob
E. Brockman for 160 acres of land: SW qtr of SE qtr of Sec 35 T56 R17.
This certificate was signed by President Zacchary Taylor. The town of
Bynumville was located at the NW corner of this land.
---At the time of his death, Jacob and Elizabeth had a farm in the N
half of the SE qtr Sec 20-54-16; 75 and 39/100 acres. This land is in
the section just west of the location of the Richardson Graveyard.
5. Middle name might be Ezekiel--or, Embree, for his mother!
6. Had 10 children but only know about 8 of them.
7. Enlisted in Company D of Searcy's Batallion of Missouri Sharpshooters.
He was a private. John Tandy, his son, was also in this same Company.
Jacob surrendered with Company D at New Orleans, LA on 26 May 1865 and
he was paroled at Alexandria, LA 7 Jun 1865.
8. Jacob E. was aged 76y-9m-1d at time of his death. The following was
copied from the Register of Deaths, Chariton county, MO: Jacob E.
Brockman, farmer, 76yr-9mo-1d. Date of death: Dec 20, 1883 at 4:30
A.M. Born in Kentucky. Lived in MO 56 years. Died in Salisbury twp.
of pneumonia. Was ill for 4 1/2 days. Buried in the Richardson
Graveyard on Dec. 31, 1883.
9. Jacob was a mason for there is a masonic symbol on his tombstone.
10. The following is a copy of the will of Jacob and Elizabeth Brockman:
"In the name of God Amen. We Jacob
Brockman and Elizabeth Brockman,
his wife, of Chariton County Missouri
realizing that we are getting old and
in failing health but of sound
mind do make and publish this
our last will.
1st We desire that our bodies shall
be decently buried and that all
our debts may be paid as soon
as may be after our death without
unnecessary sacrifice of our estate.
2nd we desire and bequeth to our youngest
son James R. Brockman the free use
of all the real Estate whereof we
may died siezed without rent for three years after
our decease and if one of us
survive the other, for three full years
after the death of the survivor. We
further bequeath to him two hundred
dollars in cash or it's equivalent
in property as he may elect, to be
paid to him by our executor to
be named hereafter, before any
other division of property is made.
3rd The remainder of the property
of which we may die siezed
our executor shall divide
equally among our children
and their descendants, share and
share alike per stripes, and
in this division the said James
R. Brockman shall be con-
sidered a full hier and receive
the same portion as each of
his brothers or sisters. The above
special bequest being made to
him in consideration that
he shall care for us while
we live. In making such
division our executor shall
give to each child its portion
and to the descendents of
any such child that may be
dead the portion of the parent to be
equally divided among such
descendants.
4th It is our will that when three
full years shall have expired from
our decrease, or from the decrease
of the survivor, our executor
shall make an exact and
equal division of all the prop-
erty both personal and real, and
for this purpose he may sell
all such property at public
or private sale as to him may
seem best. It is further our will that
during the three years, that said
James R. Brockman shall have
the full use of the real estate

he shall pay all tax thereon and
make all necessary repairs for
the preservation of said estate.
We appoint Green Dameron of
Chariton County Missouri exec-
utor of this our last will.
It is further our joint will
that this our last will shall
not be of any force or effect
till the death of us both.

and sealed and published and de-
clared this Instrument as our
last will this August 29th 1882.
