- Israel Brockman traveled to California with the Craig and
Stanley Wagon Party (according to Rick Russell who also
recommended the book authored by Edwin Bryant entitled
"What I Saw in California." ) On Oct. 6, 1864 he became a
member of the California Militia, Company D, and held the
rank of sergeant. This company was under the command
of Lt. Col. John C. Freemont.
- The Israel Brockman tombstone in San Diego reads:
Israel Brockman
California (Genevive (Brockman) Allison,
SGT sister of William Everett
CALIFORNIA BN Brockman, was responsible for
Mexican War getting the state of CA to put
November 12, 1824 up this marker).
January 20, 1871
His tombstone is in Row "C," Grave "," Division "C" in the
Masonic Section of the Mount Hope Cemetery in San Diego.
- Israel was the first sheriff of Sonoma co., CA, 1850-54 and
was also the mayor of the city of Sonoma..

In 1854-55 he was the City Treasurer of Sonoma, CA.

In 1865 he went to Mazatlan, Mexico and left all of his children,
except his oldest son, Joseph Emory, with his parents.
- About 1869-70 he returned to CA and settled near Julian,
south of San Diego.
- He died from a broken blood vessel in his lung that occurred
while he was lifting a log.
