1. Copied from Holt County Biography: "....left OH in 1847 and reached
Holt Co. July 14 of that year. He stayed for a time with Jacob Kunkle
in Nodaway township and practiced carpentry. He married Mary E.
Brockman (born Barren Co., KY) of April 4, 1850. Mary was a daughter
of Willis Brockman who came to Holt Co., in Sept. 1843 and settled in
Nodaway township. Mr. Acton bought and settled on a farm in 1851.
He followed carpentering for several years and then devoted himself
wholly to farming. He owns 250 acres. Previous to the Civil War he
was a Democrat, was a Union man during the rebellion, and has since
been a Republican. He has (in 1877) 9 children living. Since 1852 he
has acted as justice of the peace in Nodaway township."
