- The following obituary was copied from the 22 Aug 1998 issue of the
Spartanburg Herald-Journal:
"Charleston -- John Toy Brockman, 76, died Aug. 20, 1998, in a
Charleston hospital. A native of Woodruff, he was the son of the late
Harvey Toy Brockman the late Mae Smith Brockman. He was a
graduate of Georgia Tech and was a retired customer service engineer
with IBM. He was a member of Asbury-St. James United Methodist
Church and formerly served on the administrative board as chairman
of the finance committee and as a member of the Men's Club and the
Fellowship Class. He also was the former district statistician for the
Methodist Conference. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II
and was a Mason.
Surviving are his wife, Frances LeMaster Brockman; his stepmother,
Shelby Brockman of Woodruff; two daughters, Marsha B. Birch of
Ladson and Pamela B. Floyd of Beaufort; two sisters, Victoria B. Gray
of Spartanburg and Mary B. Clary of Inman; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Asbury-St. James United
Methodist Church. Burial will be at 5 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial
Gardens in Spartanburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to
5 p.m. Monday in J.F. Floyd Greenlawn Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Asbury-St. James
United Methodist Church, 754 Rutledge Ave., Charleston, 29403;
or to Arthritis Research, MUSC, 171 Ashley Ave., Charleston, 29425.
Henry Stuhr Inc., Charleston, is in charge of arrangements."
