Peter GEORGE
Peter, (1777-1847) married Anna Kettle (1783 -1864). I quote a testimonial of about 1890: "After the birth of their 9 children, they joined the migration body to come to America leaving their native home (presumably Herzig) on June 16, 1834 - 15 days journey to Le Havre and 42 days aboard a merchant ship to New York." I have record of only 7 children one of whom was my father's father Joseph, born December 13, 1817.

With respect to the manes of towns, some of them may be duplicate names, others not accurate in the spelling. For instance, on the baptismal record of Joanna, written in long-hand in Latin and with a mixed script, the initial letter ould be a Cinstead of a T in Toernich. I took this because I had found the town Tarnich in another place. Also on that record it states " in the district of Arlon". I believer all of the towns are in that district. Another town mentioned is Svernig orLounig.
I suspect a similar inaccuracy in dates. On the record, Joanna's birthdate is stated "septima 9-bris" 1825, which I take to be Nov Y, In another place her birthdate is given as Nov 5, 1827. Tombstone has Nov 1, 1825.
Amandus never came to the U.S. but all except one of his living children came during the early 1860's. Nicholas Y. married Barbara Nicolai and their first child Amandus II was born at Offen Dec 4, 1855. He is the father of Fr. Norbert and Sr. Generosa. Mary, his seventh child, was born April 19, 1869 in the U.S. and is the mother of me and Sr. Jose marie, Amandus" daughter, Marie, born Jan 14, 1822, married Michael Koch and lived and died at Platen, Luxemburg.
It is presumption, but a likely one, that Mary Alarding was from the vicinity of Hachy and that Innocent settled there when they married. There is another family fo Goerges in the U. Sl who are the decendants of three brothers who came to the U.S. from Alsace-Lorraine about 1850. the brothers names were Al[honse, Alfred and Francis which are quite different thatn those we find in our lineage but we suspect a connection with Innocent. This family knows nothing of their back-ground.

Joseph GEORGE, a retired farmer and hotel keeper, residing at Frink's Corners, in the town of Sheldon, is a practical, intelligent man possessing a sound judgement and good business talents, which have made him preeminently successful in all ofhis undertakings. He was born in Belgium, in 1817, and came to this country in 1834 with the other members of the parental household.
Peter GEORGE, the father of the subject (Joseph GEORGE) of this brief personal testimonial, was born in Belgium in 1777, and in the year 1809 married Anna Kettle, who was born in 1783. After the birth of their nine children, they joined themigrating body to come to America, leaving their native home June 16, 1834, and being fifteen days on their journey to Le Harve, whence they sailed on board a merchant ship for New York, being Forty-two days on the water. They proceeded by railto Schnectady, over the first railway built in this county, the cars, then called fire-wagons, being the first ever seen by them. The journey was continued to Buffalo by the canal, thence to Wyoming County, where said Peter GEORGE bought one hundred and sixty acres of land, at Hoard's Corners, making a payment of $14 an acre out of his store of 2500 five franc pieces which he had brought with him. He worked earnestly and perseveringly to support his family, residing on his farm untilhis demise, in 1847. His widow survived him seventeen years, dying at the age of eighty-five years. Of their children, one has since passed to the higher life, namely: Catherine, who married Mr. Rohr.
The subject of this sketch (Joseph GEORGE) was reared to agricultural labor, and in the days of his youth picked up a fair education, and was especially fond of arithmetical studies. After his marriage with Hanna GEORGE, his cousin, he located near the parental estate, on fifty acres of unimproved land, for which he paid $200, beginning his life in a log shanty. He cleared his land, raised good crops, and seven years later Built a substantial frame house, at a cost of $500. Mr. GEORGE subsequently paid $350 for another fifty acres of adjoining land, and his entire farm, now under a high state of culture, is owned and occupied by his son, Nicholas Geroge. In 1857, Mr GEORGE bought the fifty-four acres of lands, includingthe tavern (at Frink's Corners), and nine years later he moved there, having made it his permanent abiding place. Some fifteen years afterwards he kept a public house, which was known far and wide as one of the best in the vicinity, and even now, although practically retired from active business, he occasionally entertains travelers.
Mr. GEORGE met with an irreparable loss in the death of his wife, in 1883, in the fifty eight year of her age. The union was blessed by the birth of thirteen children, of those living we record the following: John, a soldier in the late Civil War, is in the soldier's home at Bath, New York; J. Nicholas, on the home farm, has seven children; Elizabeth, wife of Joseph Lindsay, of Bennington, has four children; Anna, wife of Mike Domenisy, has two children; Jane, wife of Fred SCHWAB,has five children; Theresa, wife of James LaFuey (Gaffeny); Mary, wife of Peter Wochtery (Votery), has one daughter; Joseph died at the age of three years, from a burn; William and (a second Joseph) at home; and Catherine, who keeps house for herfather. Mr GEORGE is actively identified with the interests of the community where in he has so LONG resided, and has served his fellow townsmen as Assessor, Constable and as Collector, faithfully performing the duties of each. Politically, heis a sound Democrat, and religiously is a firm believer in the Catholic faith.
( Note: This was written of Severin GEORGE's Grandfather, Joseph GEORGE, a first cousin of Nicholas Y. GEORGE, Grandfather of Louis GEORGE.)
