Obituary- Cawker City Ledger March 14, 1907
Mrs. Viebke Guhn died March 9 at 4 a.m. at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Carl Hobbie, five miles south of Tipton, aged 82 years, nine months and nine days. She was born in Holstein, Germany May 28, 1824. Her maiden name was Thomsen. She was married to John Guhn Sept. 25, 1846. To this union were born two sons and seven daughters. In 1877 the deceased with her husband and children came to America and took a homestead 3 miles northwest of Tipton in Osborne County. Here they lived highly respected by all who knew them. In 1888 March7th, her husband died at the age of 71 years and the deceased traded the farm to the youngest son Hans who married Emma Bock and lived with them. But in 1899 this youngest son died which was the deepest greif of her long life. Ever since she has lived with her youngest daughter Mrs. Carl Hobbie. She broke her leg about two years ago, since then was not able to leave this place: two weeks ago she took the lagrippe from which she died. The end came in peace without a struggle, she wasof a very strong constitution at the age of 75 years she harvested 50 acres of corn, her son and wife being ill at the time. She died on the 9th of March on which 19 years ago her husband was buried. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Meyet and she was buried in the Lutheran cemetery north east of Tipton. She leaves to mourn her loss one son and seven daughters, the son Claus and family live near Houston, Texas and the following daughters live at the following places Mrs. Carl Hobbie and Mrs. GeorgeEhlers south west of Tipton, Mrs. Chris Reinking 1 mile northwest of Tipton, Mrs. John Reneka near Wichita and the other daughters in Nebraska and Washington States, all are married. The deceased also left many grandchildren and great grand children to mourn her loss.
