Notes for this person
From the Nodaway Democrat, 11 June 1896 (Nodaway Co. MO)
Death of Z. S. Westfall
Zachariah S. Westfall died Sunday, June 7, 1896, at 12:30 a.m. at his home, three miles northwest of Barnard, Mo. He had not been in good health for some time, having trouble with heart affection.
The subject of this sketch was born January 3, 1831, in Harrison county, West Virginia. He moved to Ohio in 1852. He was married to Cordelia McLain, December 21, 1854. He was a soldier during the wa r in an Ohio regiment. He and family moved to Missouri in 1879 and settled where he afterward lived and died. [NOTE: this is not correct. They lived in Jewell County, KS for a year, were on the 1880 c ensus there, and later moved to Missouri.] His wife and six children survive, three children being dead. The living are as follows: Mrs. Martha Trainer, Zaleski, Ohio; R. F. Westfall, who lives near B arnard; Mrs. H. W. Lucas, near Barnard; Henry Westfall, in the post-office in Maryville; Mrs. J. W. Rogers, east of Maryville four miles; and Vance Westfall, with his parents.
Funeral services were held at Salem last Monday, at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. George W. Litts, of Bolckow. The deceased was a member of the M.E.Church South. The burial was conducted by the Barnard M asonic Lodge, J. W. Bunger of Maryville acting as W.M. and Charles Lippman as undertaker.
Mr. Westfall was a good citizen, a kind husband and father, and was held in high esteem in the community where he had lived for many years. He was prepared to go, and could exclaim in triumph, "I hav e fought a good fight, I have kept the faith." May his memory be cherished and his good traits be imitated. X X X
Submitter's note:

Title | Nordhessische Wurzeln |
