Frank (Darb) Spreda
A lifelong resident of Stevens Point, Frank (Darb) Spreda 1044 Briggs street, died Monday at 3:10 p.m. at St. Michael's hospital at the age of 70.
Mr. Spreda had been in poor health for the past 10 years, and his illness was aggravated by a fractured hip which he suffered in a fall June 21. He entered the hospital June 24.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus' Catholic church, and burial will follow in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Boston funeral home after 10 a.m. Wednesday. A general rosary will be said at the funeral home at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Also scheduled Wednesday are rosaries by the Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m. and by the Rosary society of St. Stanislaus' church at 7:30. Mrs. Spreda is a member of the Rosary society, and a son, James, is a member of the KC's.
Mr. Spreda was born here May 12, 1885, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Spreda.
As a young man, he was employed by the Jacobs buffet, operated in conjunction with the Jacobs house, an early-day hotel on the present site of Hotel Whiting.
Later, he worked for the Soo Line for many years, and then was employed as a bartender at the Congress tavern, 600 Park Street, until his retirement in 1945.
Mr. Spreda's marriage to the former Lena Koslowski took place in Junction City May 12, 1915.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Eleanore Mikich, Wausau; two sons, James, 1035 Portage street, and Harold, Milwaukee; a brother, Jerome Spreda, 510 Elk street; a sister, Mrs. Herbert Dean, Whiting, and seven grandchildren.
