Short notes about the early Wehling families in Wingerode

The Wingerode vilIiage community secretary, Mrs. Emmi Werner has done a lot of research at the Worbis and Heiligenstadt district (Kreis) archives together with Mrs. Rogge, when they worked at the chonic book, which was issued at the 850 Anniversary in 1996.

They copied thousands of pages from old records and all these copies are available for research at the community office in Wingerode. The most interesting records they copied were early duty and tax rolls which list all Wingeriode households, there property (land) and the duty they bad to pay. Regina and I were able to look at these records at Wednesday, Jnly 4. and Mrs. Werner even allowed us to take copies of the relevant pages for the oldest of these duty records. It was recorded in 1648 and it has no less than five Wehlings and one Northen family. Yon will find the information of these pages extracted and summarized below (I can send you the five copies if you want). Although your Wehings might be not directly connected to these Wehlings it is surely intersting to see these 350 year old information.

In 1680 there were only three Wehling families (Jacob Wehling, Andreas Wehling and Henrich Wehling) and one Northen familiy (Jacob Northen) listed. In 1766/67 there were no less than nine Wehling and three Nörthen families listed. I noted down the names and the amount they had to pay, but not all families can be connected with the Wingerode parish register data based on these names and numbers. There are a great number of more of such records for the 17'" and 18& century and most of the include information about every household.

31 Harmhenrich Nörthen was the one who had to pay the second highest tax of 145 people listed!
