<p><p>Howard Charles Koenig, 84, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015.</p></p><p><p>Mr. Koenig was born March 21, 1931, in Monticello, N.Y. At 17, he joined the military, where he served his country for eight years, including a stint in the Korean War. After his time in the service, he worked in construction until beginning his own company, Koenig Enterprises, where he and his son, Kirk, worked together throughout his life. They are both very talented men who became inseparable.</p></p><p><p>Howard loved his work, Willie Nelson, history, and most of all, his family.</p></p><p><p>Howard will be missed dearly by many, most by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Dottie (Dorothy), whom he loved more than anything. He will further be missed by his daughter, Doreen Koenig-Cangemi, of Pinehurst, and her two children, Craig Cangemi, of Washington, D.C., and Cassandra Cangemi, of Greenville; his son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Beth Koenig, of Pinehurst, and their three children, Kera Koenig, of Wilmington, Bruce Koenig, of Pinehurst, and Karissa Sweat (Yorke Sweat), of Charlotte; his four-legged best friend, Handsome; his brother William (Bill); and two sisters, Patsy and Jean; longtime friends Tommy and Jane Thomas, Lenny and Loralie Longo and family; and Marcus and Lisa Black and their family.</p></p><p><p>A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Boles Funeral Home, in Seven Lakes, officiated by the Rev.
