Austin County Declaration of Intent Surname: Stuth F_Name: John Born: Germany Age: 44years Port: Galveston Emigrated: 27 oct 1883 Date: 17 Jul 1886 - - - Bell County, Texas - BUCKHORN CEMETERY Sometimes called Meador Grove, Moody-Leon Hier Ruht Johann Christian STUTH 1841-1910 His date of birth is written beneath his name on the marriage record. It looks like 1841 for the year, but I cannot find his baptism record in Rövershagen. I cannot read what date in September. He immigrated to America in 1884 according to the 1900 Texas census. He was remarried to a woman named Wilhelmine (Minnie) from Westphalia. With her he had more children: Augusta (a child of his 2nd wife who he adopted), Anna, Henriette, Lydia, John, Ella and Edwin. Source - 1900 and 1910 Texas census records. Jerry Stuth, a great grandson of Johann, found that Johann entered America through Galveston, Texas, on October 27, 1883. On July 17, 1886, he declared his intent for American citizenship at the Austin County courthouse in Bellville. All port records in Galveston between 1871 and 1900 were destroyed in the hurricane of 1900. On October 22, 1891, he married Wilhelmina Wehrmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church between Phillipsburg and Kenny in Texas. Johann was the 1st person to be buried in the Moody-Leon Methodist Cemetery (now called Buckhorn??). Family legend says Johann was an itinerant woodcutter. In 1908 Johann moved his family from Rosebud to Buckhorn or Meadow Grove, 6 miles west of Moody, Texas, near Whitehall. There he bought a farm. 2 years later in a severe snowstorm Johann died. "The snow was so bad that few people could attend the funeral and my great-grandfather Fischgrabe had to go to town in a buckboard wagon and bring out the casket to bury him." The Johann Stuth farm is the home where Elmer J. & Mildred Stuth now live. Obituary for his son or grandson, Ed: Ed Stuth, 65, of Crawford died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in a Clifton hospital.
