Lindenberg - - - Klaus, Roy 10-25-1930 M Emily Kramer Willie A Klaus - - - Roy W. Klaus, 70, of Brenham, died Saturday, June 9 [2001] in College Station Medical Center. Mr. Klaus was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Frelsburg, Texas, to Willie and Emily Kramer Klaus. He attended Buggy Branch School and graduated from Columbus High School and Blinn College. Mr. Klaus was proud to serve his country during the Korean War, in the 36th Division, and was a tank driver. He served as a sergeant first class and was an instructor over his platoon. On March 2, 1952, he married Shirley Jean Huebner in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome. He and his wife, whom he loved dearly for over 49 years, enjoyed traveling on long vacations throughout the U.S., Canada and Germany. For several years, Mr. Klaus enjoyed teaching boys as a Little League baseball coach. He was an adjutant in the American Legion for three years, a councilman at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, a member of the VFW Post 7104, American Legion Post 48, both in Brenham, and Industry Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Klaus and his son, Timothy, were contractors together for over 25 years. They had a very special and close relationship. Mr. Klaus loved working with people. He never met a stranger an helped anyone when needed. People, in general, meant a lot to him. He was in the carpentry contracting business for 47 years and thoroughly enjoyed his work. He had many close relationships with his friends due to his many years of work. Mr. Klaus also enjoyed fishing with his son and was looking forward to another fishing trip to the coast. He loved animals, working on the farm and living at his home in Brenham with his wife Shirley. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jean Klaus of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Allan and Alice Klaus of Brenham, daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Ann and Robert Nelson of McDade; grandchildren, Jennifer Sue Nelson and fiance Mike Baratz and Lisa Nicole Nelson; sisters, Norma Drymalla of Columbus and Amanda Albers of The Woodlands; sister-in-law, Viola Eben of Welcome; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends; and special puppy Freckles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Emily Klaus; brother, Raymond Klaus; sister-in-law, Darlene Canik; and brothers-in-law Ben Eben and Henry Albers. The funeral service will be Wednesday, June 13 at 2 p.m. in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome with Pastor Walter Schindehette officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, June 12, from 6-8 p.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Raymond Walker, Wilbert Horstmann, Nolan Nitsche, Leonard Roeske, Roger Hannath and Ben Seeker. Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome of the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
