Notizen zu dieser Person
He succeeded his young nephew, Ladislas, to the throne of Hungary in 1205
He set off on an ill-fated Crusade to the Holy Land with an army of 15,000 men in 1217. He was forced to agree to the Golden Bull, a document that became an important source of the Hungarian constitution, limiting royal rights and prerogatives, confirmed basic rights of smallholders and nobles, guaranteed justice for all, and promised to improve the coinage, and under it, nobles had the right to resist by force any royal decree, in 1222.
He was described by his son-in-law, King James of Aragon, as "one of the most honourable kings in the world".
