W.F. ROCKEY DIES EARLY THIS MORNING

Death Took Place at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne - Funeral Services Wednesday Afternoon

William Francis Rockey, past 57 years old, 803 East VanBuren Street, Columbia City, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph hospital in Fort Wayne. Mr. Rockey suffered a heart attack on Sept. 21st at Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he had gone to purchase peaches. Later he was taken to the hospital where he was found to have acute heart disease. An autopsy was performed this morning to determine the exact cause of death.

He was born in Wolf Lake on Apr 22, 1890 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Rockey. He lived at his present residence since 1937 except for a short time he spent in Fort Wayne. He came to Columbia City from Churubusco where he and Mrs. Rockey resided from 1917 to 1937. Mr. Rockey was a fireman at the Columbia City Hardwood Lumber Mill.

On August 1, 1916 he was married to Zebna Clingerman, who survives. In addition to Mrs. Rockey a son, Frederick J. Rockey, resides at 307 Van Buren Street and a daughter, Mrs. Ralph Wolfe lives at 325 Hanna Street. There are four grandchildren living. The following named brothers and sisters are living; Mrs. Ben Royer of Richland township, Frederick Rockey and Mrs. Rosa Stimer of Jackson. Michigan, Mrs. Lilly Bennett of near South Bend, Mrs. Almeda Reading, Lake Tomahaw, Wis., Mrs. Norman Hobbs, Iowa City, Iowa.

The body was brought to the DeMoney-Hollingsworth Funeral home where friends may call after ten o’clock Tuesday morning and where funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Fred Densmore of Bristol, former pastor of the Nazarene church will conduct the services and internment will be in the Christian Chapel cemetery at Merriam. (e-mail Judy G 13/2/06)

Funeral services for William Francis Rockey, 803 Van Buren Street, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the DeMoney-Hollingsworth Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Densmore of Bristol, former pastor of the local Church of the Nazarene, and the Rev. D.A. Glaze, pastor of the church, officiated.

Mrs. Densmore sang three hymns requested by the family. They were; "Goodnight and Good Morning," "Just Inside the Eastern Gate," and "In the Garden". Her organ accompaniment was played by Mrs. B.V. Widney.

Flower bearers were; Edna Lou Brown, Edna Mae Brockmeyer, Sally Lehman, Beverly Shoda, Emily Rosucci, Marilyn Shoda, Ida Dowell, and Ada Dowell.

The pall bearers were chosen from Mr. Rockey's co-workers at the Columbia City Hardwood Lumber Company. They were; Ora Dowell, Harley Pettit, Earl Rothgeb, Glenn Chapman, Steven Shultz, and Albert Salesman.

Committal services were held in Christian Chapel cemetery at Merriam.
