Gawthrop Floyd - A man killed early last Monday night at Spaulding, Illinois near Springfield by an Illinois Central Railroad passenger train was identified by fingerprints as Floyd Gawthrop, 59, of Columbia City. The engineer said he saw the man on the tracks but did not have enough time to stop. Gawthrop, born April 22, 1888, in Noble County, came to Columbia City 33 years ago, working at the Farmers Mill & Elevator Co., the Columbia Products Co., and Daniel Bros. Packing Co. Surviving are the wife, Mertie; 3 sons, Theo and Thurlo, Columbia City, and Thurman, Big Lake; 3 daughters, Mrs. Arthur Rudig of Elwood, Mrs. Ronald Roebuck, Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Ralph Joker, Columbia City; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ray of Wolf Lake, Judd, Noble County, and James in Canada; and a sister, Mrs. Fred Rockey, Springport, Mich. 9-29-1947
