Dennis R. Eby, 44, of Crescent City, passed away Friday (Dec. 9, 2011). A gathering time for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel, where a celebration of Dennis' life funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Don McDonald will officiate.

Burial, with full military honors, will follow the services at Mount Airy Cemetery in Momence. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the family wishes.

Dennis was born Sept. 29, 1967, in Kankakee, the son of Mary Eby. He proudly served his country as a Sergeant First class E7 in the U.S. Army and was with the 101st Airborne for most of his career. He enjoyed using his computer, watching the Chicago Bears, drinking beer, fishing, shooting, and watching action and war movies. He had just begun to start a gun collection. He also loved the Danforth Sportsman's Club, the Kankakee and Iroquois rivers and was an Eagle Scout with Troop 319.

Surviving are his wife, the former Kimberly Hancock, of Yorkville, whom he married March 5, 1997; one son, Josh, of Crescent City; two daughters, Jasmine Eby, of Dixmoor, and Kaitlyn Eby, of Yorkville; his mother, of Kankakee; mother-in-law, Lois (Roger) Schultz, of Kankakee; his foster parents, James and JoAnn McCurry, of Bradley; and brother, Jim (Aimee) McCurry, of Danforth; special friends, Jim and Vickie Dotson, of Clarksville, Tenn.; aunt, Sandy Eby, of Bourbonnais; first wife, Britton Eby, of Bourbonnais; aunt and uncle, John and Debbie Badalamenti, and aunt, Connie Markward, all of Coral Springs, Fla.; goddaughter, Sabrina Sthay, of Canton, Ga.; aunt, Diana Williams, of Fullerton, Calif.; aunt and uncle, Mary Lee and Phillip Eby, and aunt, Ruth Osterloh, all of North Carolina, uncle, John Eby, of Joliet; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends, 1st Sgt. Ernest Simpson, of California, 1st Sgt. Ronald Apholtz, of Florida, 1st Sgt. Donald Hogan, of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Sgt. David Williams, of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his uncles, Paul Eby and David Eby; grandparents, Woodrow and Grace (Busha) Eby; childhood friend, Joe Haug Jr.; and all of his comrades and fallen soldiers.

Funeral services for Dennis R. Eby, 44, of Crescent City, were held Dec. 14 at the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel. The Rev. Don McDonald officiated. Mr. Eby died Dec. 9, 2011. Burial, with full military honors, was in Mount Airy Cemetery, Momence. Pallbearers were David Williams, Jacob and James McCurry, Kris Smith, James Dotson and Scott Travelstead.
