Son of Sir Otto Beit [1865-1930] and Lilian Lane Carter, of New Orleans, USA.
Conservative M.P for St. Pancras, 1931-1945.
Joined the Royal Air Force during WW2, serving in Bomber Command.
In 1938 he married Clementine Mabell Kitty Freeman-Mitford, the posthumous daughter of Major Clement Mitford.
There were no children of the marriage.
In 1993, in recognition of the donation of his art collection to the Irish State, he was made an honorary citizen of Ireland.
