Notes for this person
Pressemeldung Willmar Tribune vom 26.04.1911:
August Schmitz, the founder of the great woolen and cotton mills at Furulund, Malmö, has celebrated his sixtieth birthday. His employes had prepared and signed an address to him, thanking him for what he had done for them and the community. A sisilver bowl accompanied the address. Those who receive a pension from August Schmitz handed him an address of thanks in the form of a poem written by Mrs. Ingrid Berg. From the board of directors of the company which is formally running the mills he received two collossal urns of pure silver. Representatives from several business concerns and a great number of individuals called on Mr. Schmitz during the day to pay him their respects. He is a Catholic, and his contributions to charitable institutions have been very liberal. Bishop Bitter, of Stockholm, sent him a letter telling him that the head of the Catholic church had pronounced the Apostolic benediction upon him and his mother, who is 92 years old. Late in the day a telegram was received from the pope, announcing that a special blessing had been pronounced upon August Schmitz and his house.
