Opal Lavina Ziegenfuss was born Jan. 11, 1936 in Springdale, Ark., to Minnie and Younger McGarrah. She passed away July 5, 2010, at Elk City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 9 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Family.
She married Frederick Harold Ziegenfuss in the Holy Family Catholic Church at Canute on Nov. 20, 1954. They lived in Lubbock, Texas, until returning to Canute in 1955. She worked for Armours Creamery for several years. Opal later began her career in the restaurant industry, working at the Village Inn in Canute and the Ramada Inn in Elk City until opening her own restaurant, Opal's Café in Canute, which she owned and operated until 1995 when she retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son, Steven. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Coy and husband, Mike, Elk City; 6 grandchildren, Crystal Coy, Oklahoma City, Chris Coy, Weatherford, Sarah, Hannah, Rebekah and Elijah Ziegenfuss, Ft. Cobb; several nieces and nephews and several other relatives and friends.
