Alice Hartung, 85 of Mineral Point, died on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Upland Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Dodgeville.
Alice was born Oct. 7, 1926, to William and Mary Lawinger and was raised on a farm with her seven brothers and sisters. She attended St. Mary's Catholic grade school and Mineral Point High School graduating in 1944. After graduation Alice worked for Burgess Battery and various families in the Mineral Point area.
On April 10, 1951 she married the love of her life, Linus Hartung, at St. Mary's Catholic Church and raised five wonderful daughters. Linus and Alice farmed until moving into town in 1980. After that Alice worked for the Mineral Point High School cafeteria program until retiring in 1976.
Alice is survived by her daughters: Theresa (Duke) Raemisch, Jean (Joe) Newquist, Mary (Kevin) Ubersox, Marcia (Jeff) Newquist, Connie (Matt) Cottrill and Deb Newquist, a very special part of our family; her grandkids: Gayle (Larry) Paul, John (Leslie) Voigts, Jennifer (Gene) Grindler, Carissa (Adam) Ubersox, Trent (Heather) Ubersox, Matt (Amber) Newquist, Meagan Newquist, Emma, Hannah and Charlie Cottrill, Deven Newquist; her great-grandkids: Madysen and Lauryn Paul, Chase, Sydney and Brayden Grindler and Gunnar Newquist; her sisters: Helen Flanagan, Joan Grimm, Ag Knudson; her brother: Ken (Mary) Lawinger; her in-laws: Helena Lawinger, Helen Regan, Gil Joestgen, Wilfred (Pat) Hartung, Bob (Rita) Hartung, Richard Vansant, Carol (LeRoy) Hartung and Gene Hartung; and a special family friend, Betty Lawinger. She was preceded in death by her husband Linus Hartung; her sister Eleanor Joestgen; her brothers Bill and Bob Lawinger; her brother-in-law Cecil Flanagan; her sisters-in-law Florence Meyer, Rosie Reisen and Lorraine Vansant; her nephew Steve Vansant; and her nieces Kaye Walsh and Cathy Hartung.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2012, at Ss. Mary & Paul Catholic Church in Mineral Point. Fr. James Hinnen officiated. Burial was held in St. Mary's Cemetery.
