Mrs. Joseph Hartung passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning May 7, at Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire, after about a week’s illness from pneumonia.
Nellie Lezotte was born January 17, 1897 in the town of Grant, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Lezotte. She had reached the age of 34 years, 5 months and 17 days. After completing the course at the home school she took the Rural Teachers Course at Eau Claire Normal School and alter attended summer school at Stevens Point Normal. She taught successfully in the rural schools of this county for six years and was held in high esteem by pupils and parents.
On Aug. 10, 1922 she was married to Jos. Hartung and with him established their home on his farm in Pine Valley south of the city. She leaves her husband and four little daughters: Margaret age 8, Catherine 7, Helen 4, and Rose 2.
The funeral was held Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic church. The pall bearers were six brothers of Jos Hartung: Frank, Arthur, George, Clarence, Tony and Henry. Relatives from away who came to attend the funeral were Misses Lena and Elizabeth Hartung of Madison; Mike Wiedenholdt and son Joe of Dubuque, Iowa; Mrs. Theresa Splinter and her son, Rev. Father Splinter, of Camp Douglas; Frank and Arthur Hartung of Chicago; George Hartung of Grant County; Clarence Hartung, who teaches in a high school in Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Lezotte and family and Miss Grace Lezotte of Neenah, Irving and Marvin Lezotte and Mrs. Hartel of Ft. Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Vitten of Tony; Mrs. Esther Nelson of Ladysmith.
