Richard P. "Dick" Byrne, 82, of Cuba City, died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Services will be Monday, March 31, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was born on Feb. 14, 1926, in Cuba City, son of Cyril "Shorty" and Augusta (Hoppenjan) Byrne. He married Celine Loeffelholz on Aug. 26, 1950, in Shullsburg; she preceded him in death in November 1991.
Dick worked as a bricklayer and carpenter from 1946 until 1980. He owned and operated the Hoist House in Platteville, with his wife, Celine, and son, Linc, from 1983 to 1989.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann Byrne, of Augusta, Gloria Ray, of Cuba City, and Celine Byrne, of Platteville; five sons, David Byrne, of Cuba City, Frank (Minda) Byrne, of Milwaukee, Don (Lisa) Byrne, of Eau Claire, and Bob Byrne and Aaron Byrne, both of Cuba City; 12 grandchildren, Tara Byrne, Justin and Alex Ray, Jacob and Jesse Brown, Matt, Sam and Kevin Byrne, Conor, Augusta, and Anika Byrne, and Alexis Byrne; a great-grandchild, Brandon Byrne; and many nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Karen Byrne, in 1953; a son, Richard "Linc" Byrne, in 2008.
